I studied art intensively on a part-time basis over a ten year period at many major London Art Colleges including Chelsea College of Art and Design, Central St. Martins, and Heatherleys Open Studios. I also completed Foundation Studies at London Guildhall University. During this period I gained tuition from over 20 different tutors. The majority of this involved working from life in oils, portrait painting, still life and life painting. I also gained experience in linedrawing, watercolours, printmaking etc.

During this time I also learnt the techniques of the Old Masters which involved detailed preparation of the ground, either wood or canvas; creation of an underpainting in neutral tones, then developement of both the darks and lights by the use of glazes and highlights. I learnt to prepare my own materials at this time, including making oil paints by grinding the mineral materials with linseed, poppy or walnut oils and preparing varnishes to use in the glazes.
